About the Role

You will be working with Special Education students with mental and physical disabilities to attain vocational goals and objectives according to Individual Educational Plans (IEPs). This includes assisting students in developing various socially acceptable life skills, including hygiene, eating, social, community, vocational, and leisure/recreational skills.

Requirements

• Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education OR the ability to demonstrate, through a formal local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics (or readiness in those subjects, as appropriate). Testing to be determined.
• High school graduate.
• Knowledge of principles and practices relating to Special Education, subjects taught in District schools, and principles and techniques of providing instructional assistance in a variety of subject areas.
• Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Physical and mental capacity to deal effectively with students with mental and physical disabilities.
