Responsibilities

  • Assists in the administration of assessment of students at the time of enrollment for eligibility in the ESL program
  • Prepares students for English language assessments required pursuant to state and federal law
  • Aids in the implementation of the most appropriate language instruction educational program (LIEP) based on the student's English language proficiency and native language proficiency if available
  • Collaborates with Special Education personnel to determine program and academic placement for students with Individualized Education Programs
  • Complies with parental notice and placement requirements
  • Implements LIEP provisions of English language development (ELD) throughout the school day
  • Affords general education teachers with strategies for working with students who have LIEPs and are placed in the general education program for all or part of the school day
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students, including current technology and whole group/small-group or individual learning
  • Affords assistance in ensuring a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interest, and abilities of students, and provides both social and emotional support for English Language Learners
  • Uses the Pennsylvania English Language Development Standards Framework for planning instruction and assessment of English learners
  • Provides equitable access to content for English learners at all language proficiency levels by providing research-based or sheltered instruction with fidelity
  • Affords assistance in the learning process toward the achievement of established District curriculum goals, establishes and communicates clear objectives to the students for all lessons, units, and projects
  • At least annually participates in evaluation of the LIEP to ensure its effectiveness based on student outcomes
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by the law, District policy and administrative regulation
  • Sets forth the support of district specialists when concerns regarding student progress arise and collaborates with instructional staff to provide language support when appropriate
  • Attends District meetings and serves on District committees as required and participates in in-service and staff development activities and staff meetings as required or assigned
  • Participates in annual professional development related to ELD/ESL and maintains knowledge and proficiency in English as a Second Language requirements and current research
  • Maintains confidentiality as it pertains to student and family information

Requirements

  • Second Language Desirable. To include, but not limited to, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, and Uzbek

  • FLSA: Non-exempt
  • Pay Rate: $20.25 per hour
