About the role

The Paraeducator IA works collaboratively with students/staff in various learning environments, assisting with a range of instructional support and supervision duties for students with diverse needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with a variety of instructional support and supervision duties of students who have learning, communication, physical, behavioral, or emotional disabilities.
  • Prepares educational materials.
  • Maintains academic progress of students.
  • Collects student data.
  • Implements behavior plans.

Requirements

Education and Experience: Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent. Must meet one of the following: Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university, have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university, completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, received a passing score on one of the PESB approved assessments, possess valid First Aid and CPR certifications, and certification of de-escalation and physical restraint training.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with students in an educational setting and/or evidence of an interest in supporting learning experiences.
  • Experience working with students with physical or cognitive disabilities and/or behavior challenges or social/emotional issues desirable.
  • Training with cultural, ethnic and language diversity.

Skills

Knowledge of special education principles and practices, ability to communicate effectively with students and staff, and proficiency in using technology tools.

Pay

$31.21 to $35.06 per hour (2025-26 Classified Support Staff Salary Schedule)

Schedule

1.5 hours a day; 183 day calendar
