About the Role

The incumbent performs a variety of instructional and classroom support and student supervision duties to assist the school and teachers in instruction, supervision, and education of students.

This is a part-time, permanent position working 3.5 hours per day (.4375 FTE). The work calendar follows a 180-day school year. Schedule is to be determined and subject to change based on department needs.

Pay

Initial wage placement according to the NCSD/OSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement for the 2026-2027 school year:

  • Step 2: $22.88 per hour
  • Step 3: $24.02 per hour
  • Step 4: $25.24 per hour
  • Step 5: $26.50 per hour
  • Step 6: $27.84 per hour
  • Step 7: $29.23 per hour
  • Step 8: $30.69 per hour
  • Step 9: $32.22 per hour

Benefits

The North Clackamas School District participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP). The district contributes the employer portion, and there is a mandatory 6% employee contribution via payroll deduction upon eligibility. Eligibility requires working at least six full calendar months in a qualifying position. Part-time employees qualify if they work at least six months and 600 hours in a calendar year.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities, or demonstrated commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with a diverse population.
  • Successful completion of an Associate's Degree or two years of post-high school education in appropriate and related areas of study. This requirement may be substituted by successfully passing the written Educational Testing Service competency examination at the District's discretion.
  • May be required to be certified or become certified in first aid, CPR, and/or operation of defibrillators.
  • Able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions and changing tasks and priorities.
  • Able to assist, console, and manage students who may be emotional, distraught, or frustrated.
  • Able to remain calm, focused, and in control when working with students, parents, guardians, and community members who may be difficult and challenging to engage.
  • Able to follow written and verbal direction and take initiative to seek clarity and action when needed.
  • Be or become knowledgeable and supportive of classroom management and student discipline procedures.
  • Proficiency in proper use of the English language, including enunciation, spelling, and syntax, to assist and model proper language usage by students.
  • Able to organize work and set priorities for accomplishing tasks in a timely and effective manner.
  • Able to protect the confidentiality of student information consistent with FERPA requirements and good judgment.
  • Able to work collaboratively and effectively with staff, students, parents, volunteers, and community members.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in using office and computer equipment, standard office software, and student information system software.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate and related field of study.
  • Two years of experience demonstrating the ability to work successfully with children in a learning environment.
  • Bilingual and bicultural skills in languages common to the District, such as Spanish, Korean, Russian, and Vietnamese (specific language needs determined by position).

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively by assisting teachers in assessment, supporting curriculum, student interactions, enforcing and teaching safe behaviors, and enhancing social growth of students in the school setting.
  • Implements behavior support and intervention plans as directed by a teacher. Documents student behavior to assist teachers in assessing progress with education plans. Maintains or assists in maintaining student weekly progress reports.
  • Provides limited first aid when necessary. Assesses injuries to determine if nursing care is needed. Maintains knowledge of students with medical concerns to remain aware of potentially dangerous situations.
  • Exercises discretion and ensures protection of student confidentiality when communicating with students, parents, community members, and staff, consistent with direction and guidance from staff, administrators, and school/district policies.
  • Utilizes training to manage student behavior and ensure student safety. Intervenes when students are not in control, not in the proper location, or in potentially dangerous situations.
  • May take action or assist in de-escalating students at risk of harming themselves or others by following school/district-approved procedures.
  • Provides instructional support and tutoring to students in large groups, small groups, and one-on-one situations.
  • Oversees student safety during activities such as recess, playground supervision, bus duty, crossing guard duty, and hallway supervision. Intervenes when students are not in control or in unsafe situations.
  • May provide assistance with toileting, feeding, mobility, and personal hygiene for students requiring such help.
  • Performs clerical duties such as making copies, operating office equipment, answering telephones, ordering materials, and record keeping.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
