About the role
Assist special needs for students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing in a variety of programs. This includes, but is not limited to: use of sign language to communicate with student, note taking for student, monitoring support use of DM equipment, orientation of schedule and classroom locations, adaptation of materials to complete assignments, organization of materials, and facilitation of language acquisition through modeling, questioning, and expansion.
Responsibilities
- Assist students with classroom learning and/or recreational activities.
- Guide students in their learning expectations, assignments, or tasks.
- Perform tutoring with the use of Sign Language to ensure reinforcement of academic concepts, social, and behavioral skills.
- Help with organization of classroom materials for student.
- Assist students with adherence to following classroom structures and routines.
- Support behavior plan implementation.
- Facilitate language acquisition through modeling, questioning, and expansion through the use of sign language.
- Assist students with personal hygiene and care.
- Assist with students' physical problems such as suctioning, trachea, tube feeding, diapering, etc.
- Sanitize, disinfect, and clean learning environment and general work areas of all bodily fluids.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Proficient in Conceptually Accurate Signed English (CASE)/Pigeon Signed English (PSE).
- Preferred experience in working with children who have Special Needs.
- Criminal background check required for hire.
Pay
Hourly range: $20.82 - $26.31 (Step 1 - Step 9). Newly hired classified employees are placed initially on Step 1 of the pay grade for their position. Employees can advance an additional 7 steps (maximum Step 8) based on previous experience.
