Job Summary

CHANDLER UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT seeks a Classroom Instructional Health Aide for moderate to severe disabilities. This position provides instructional support and assists students with various physical, emotional, and academic needs.

About the Role

This role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, plus an Associate's Degree or 60 semester hours from an accredited university, or satisfactory results on an AZ state-approved competency exam. CPR/First Aid certification is required, along with the ability to operate standard office equipment and meet the physical demands of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct, within proximity to the teacher, individual students or small groups of students to reinforce material or skills initially introduced by the teacher
  • Translate, both orally and written, for parents, students, staff, and others
  • Absorb and address personal care needs of students with severe medical conditions and/or physical limitations
  • Implement behavioral plans developed by a team consisting of parent and school personnel
  • Assist with emergency rescue medications if necessary
  • Assist with assessments and data collection under the supervision of the certified teacher
  • Operate and care for equipment used for instructional purposes
  • Alert the teacher to any problem or special information about a student
  • Participate in meetings and in-service training as required
  • Maintain the confidentiality of protected student and staff member information
  • Be flexible and perform other duties relating to the general job function as assigned by the supervisor
  • Accept responsibility for students' well-being and safety while they are in the employee's care
  • Report the possibility of any substance use, child abuse, or dangerous situation based upon daily observation
  • Maintain a quiet and orderly classroom environment
  • Follow district policies as outlined
  • Perform all duties safely and prudently as directed by supervisors

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Associate's Degree or 60 semester hours from an accredited university, or satisfactory results on an AZ state-approved competency exam
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Satisfactory criminal background check
  • Meet the physical demands as described below

Physical Requirements

  • Mobility and Movement: Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, stand, walk, and sit. The role involves repetitive finger and manual dexterity.
  • Sensory and Communication: Requires the ability to speak, hear, and see (with correction) to perform essential job functions.
  • Physical Exertion: Occasionally lift or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds; frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds; constantly lift or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • Work Environment: Employees may be exposed to various environmental factors such as odors, dust, poor ventilation, workspace restrictions, bloodborne pathogens, and loud noises.
