About the role
This position assists a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups of severely handicapped students who may have extreme behavioral issues in a classroom. The primary responsibilities include direct instruction, monitoring, and reporting student progress regarding behavior and performance. Additionally, the role involves assisting students in developing various self-help, behavior, social, and community skills.
Responsibilities
- Assist in providing individual or small group instruction to severely handicapped students.
- Maintain a safe and structured learning environment for students.
- Monitor students' behavior and academic progress, and report findings to the supervising teacher.
- Aid students in developing self-help, behavior, social, and community skills.
Requirements
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to: High school diploma or GED, and at least two years of paid or volunteer experience working with children or individuals with disabilities.
- One of the following certifications: SCOE Para Proficiency certificate, NCLB/ESSA certificate, CBEST, or transcripts showing at least 48 college semester units or an AA degree or higher.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least two years of paid or volunteer experience working with children or individuals with disabilities.
- Associate’s degree or higher, or at least 48 college semester units, or pass the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) exam.
Benefits
A benefit entitlement for health, dental, and vision coverage is available for positions that are at least 4 hours per day. The amount of the entitlement is based on the number of hours worked per day.
Pay
$28.49 - $35.08 per hour, with initial placement restricted to a maximum of Step 2 ($30.10/HR).
Schedule
Part-time, 185 days/year, 5 days/week, 6 hours/day (8:35 a.m. - 3:05 p.m.).
