About the role
Responsible for managing the Paper and Shipping Departments that include two Paper Machines. Oversee all activities in the departments including safety, environmental compliance, quality & customer satisfaction, cost control, production, maintenance planning, financial budgets & results, capital project support, people development, and employee & labor relations.
Responsibilities
- Lead safety systems and processes to achieve continually improving annual safety goals, ensuring a safe, engaged, and highly motivated workforce.
- Manage department environmental management systems to ensure compliance and environmental stewardship.
- Focus on quality and service fundamentals, coupled with innovation, to deliver winning solutions to customers.
- Develop and maintain methods for tracking and reducing chemical and operational costs.
- Optimize paper machine schedules to maximize production, increase uptime, and reduce off-quality output.
- Collaborate with the Mill Controller and Leadership team to develop budgets and analyze financial results for improved profitability.
- Provide input to capital projects from inception through completion.
- Initiate and facilitate improvement projects focused on strategic initiatives to reduce cost, increase productivity, and improve quality.
- Invest in employee development to help team members operate at their full potential.
- Build positive labor relations based on trust, respect, and empowerment.
Requirements
- B.S. Degree with 5+ years of Paper Mill experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, including at least 2 years at the Paper Machine Superintendent level or above.
- General understanding of mill-wide operations and interdependencies.
- Strong communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to define objectives clearly and involve others in achieving them.
- Dedication to continuous improvement with emphasis on safety, quality, environment, production, and cost.
- Proven leadership skills with strong interpersonal, customer service, and communication abilities.
- High sense of urgency and attention to detail.
- Ability to work well in teams, both as a leader and a member.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).
- Experience with Plant Information Systems (PI - Process Book, PARCview, Proficy) is preferred.
- Knowledge of DCS (Distributed Control System).
- Ability to learn proprietary software programs.
- Understanding of Box Plant Corrugator operation.
- Experience with customer visits and/or interactions.
- Lean or Six Sigma certifications are a plus.
