Description & Requirements

The Opportunity: The Paper Machine Assistant Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the Paper Machine's safety, environmental performance, product quality, costs, and equipment efficiency. This role directs a system aimed at optimizing overall paper machine performance.

  • Develop and implement safety engagement strategies with operating team members.
  • Lead initiatives to improve productivity, uptime, quality rejects, and other paper machine improvement projects.
  • Ensure proper completion of machine rounds and operator logs.
  • Prepare and plan for outages and execute Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.
  • Drive continuous improvement culture and implement cost reduction processes.
  • Oversee quality control for the Paper Machine.
  • Work with planning to manage machine schedules and grade structures.
  • Collaborate with vendors to enhance machine reliability.
  • Facilitate employee skill development to improve machine performance.
  • Perform periodic weekend duty as Paper Mill Representative.
  • Support the Paper Mill Manager and attend Core Team Meetings.
  • Manage and mentor a team of engineers, maintenance coordinators, and hourly employees.
  • Direct and supervise contract employees on floor-level activities.
  • Assist cross-functional project teams as needed.
  • Manage operations within allocated performance and budget metrics.

What You Need To Succeed

  • A BS degree in Engineering or equivalent Paper Machine Supervisory experience.
  • 10+ years of Machine Level Supervisory Experience preferred.
  • Strong trouble-shooting and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in computer skills.

Leadership And Management Responsibilities

  • Manages paper machine engineering support team members, Paper Machine Operations Maintenance Coordinator, and Paper Machine Crews.
  • Trains employees and manages their performance.
  • Mentors and provides guidance to team members.
  • Manages disciplinary actions and resolves conflicts.
  • Communicates with the Paper Mill Manager to address issues.
  • Serves as a direct supervisor to the Paper Mill Manager.
