About the role

The Paper Converter independently operates machinery that converts large mill rolls of paper into fanfold paper or rewinds paper into rolls.

Responsibilities

• Operates a fanfold or rewinding machine to ensure product is cut to proper length and width.
• Loads rolls of paper on machine back stands and threads paper between feed rollers to wind smaller rolls of 2-ply or 3-ply paper.
• Observes flow of material through machine to detect irregular cutting and winding that may cause out-of-spec conditions.
• Guides fanfold bundle into off-load conveyor once bundle is finished.
• Adjusts machine settings such as air pressures for brakes, tension and web control, speed controls, and alignment settings for paper.
• Removes product from conveyor and places on pallet in upright or horizontal position according to skid loading diagram.
• Applies splice tape to bundles and rolls.
• Checks finished product to ensure it meets product specifications; reworks as required.
• Verifies product is correct to schedule and set up.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 1+ years of experience in running industrial machinery.
• Ability to make necessary machine adjustments when out of tolerance.
• Ability to learn and run multiple machines with a high level of efficiency.
• Basic machine knowledge.
• Ability to move or lift 45 to 135 pounds.
• Ability to stand for 8 hours.
• Good organizational skills and attendance record.
• Basic math skills.

Lift truck experience is helpful.
