About Student Activities

While enrollment and completion of courses of study is a primary function of a student, participating in related activities can provide tangible evidence of interest and initiative. Staff and administration at the Frederick V. Pankow Center encourage all students to engage in clubs and associations tied to their coursework, share experiences with peers, and celebrate achievements.

Available Clubs and Associations

• DECA - Distributive Education Clubs of America
• FFA - National FFA Organization (Agricultural Science)
• Future Educators Association
• HOSA - Health Occupations of America
• NTHS - National Technical Honor Society
• SkillsUSA
• Special Olympics - Soccer, basketball, gymnastics, swimming, volleyball, fitness training

Math, Science, and Technology (MST) Program

• Mu Alpha Theta (MAT) - A national Mathematics Honor Society for qualifying students. MAT members provide after-school math tutoring every Tuesday from 2:45–3:30 for all MST students and organize Pi Week activities in March. Students who meet requirements may qualify for a scholarship. Contact Mrs. Magneson for details.
• Science National Honor Society (SNHS) - Available to qualifying students. Peer tutoring is offered in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Contact Ms. Garmo for more information.

Performing Arts

• Michigan Dance Council - Michigan Youth Arts Festival
• International Thespian Society - Recognizes excellence in high school theater (acting and technical theater)
• Courageous Persuaders - High school students create films to educate middle schoolers on the dangers of alcohol abuse and compete for scholarships.
