PALNG Training and Competency Supervisor

About the role

Responsible for site competency programs across the Port Arthur site with a primary focus on operations competency. The team will train, evaluate, and test process operators, marine coordinators, and maintenance technicians to ensure site competency requirements are met. Individual will be required to attain and maintain certifications for every operational area of the facility. Also responsible for site training requirements and monitoring local compliance and corporate training requirements.

This role is part of the strategic arm working under the direction of the Production Manager to assure the organization is operating as efficiently and safely as possible while achieving their production goals. This role will maintain a site training matrix and will be an essential part of the annual activity planning process to ensure all core competency roles are trained in accordance with local and federal requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Interfaces with operations supervisors on a routine basis to ensure that supervisors are aware of and closing gaps in understanding and competency for their teams.
  • Leads operator interns to ensure that they are developing toward a single certification while getting experiences that will benefit their education and development.
  • Provides subject matter expert recommendations on Operating best practices along with improvements gleaned through training exercises.
  • Develops, updates, and maintains operating plans, procedures, manuals and programs.
  • Ensures the Operations team is competent by reviewing KPIs and monitoring systems and processes that will assure both short-term and long-term success of the competency program.
  • Performs field observations, leadership field walks, JSA reviews, toolbox meetings, field self-verifications, and competency assessment field assessments.
  • Maintains strong working relationship with local schools to ensure programs are in place to provide the best talent for future hiring.
  • Responsible for conducting and participating in internal and external audits.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Requirements

  • Education: Typically requires a 4 year degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Experience: Typically requires 5 years of related experience in Petrochemical, Refining or Oil & Gas, LNG.

Qualifications

  • Possess extensive knowledge in implementing best practices for operations.
  • Possess strong leadership abilities to build positive team environment, manage and influence team performance including mentoring.
  • Possess analytical thinking and ability to utilize concise data and information while working through problems and implementing solutions.
  • Possess positive attitude and has the ability and poise to be professional during crucial discussions with senior management, and/or while presenting critical information requiring management decision to overcome issues and concerns regarding the site operations.
  • Possess strong working knowledge and understanding of how to read and interpret P&IDs.
  • Possess extensive experience in managing and mitigating operational risks.
  • Understanding of competency development programs and supporting tools and practices.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of operating site safety, environmental, and emergency response programs.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills while presenting and participating in fruitful discussions with internal and external project stakeholders.
  • Possess extensive knowledge and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, i.e. Word, Excel, PPT, Visio to convey information with clarity through presentations and reports.
  • Possess extensive experience in meeting project goals and objectives utilizing forward looking approach.
  • Possess the ability to manage multiple and complex issues and work independently.
  • Possess strong working knowledge of permit to work and safe isolation practices.
  • Understanding of the maintenance work management process and systems.
