About the Role

Operate and maintain the palletizing machine to ensure product is properly stacked, stretch wrapped, and ready for warehouse storage.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the palletizing machine runs continuously and troubleshoot malfunctions or abnormalities in a timely manner, including issues with the machine, shuttle cars, wrappers, and photo eyes.
  • Inform maintenance of any required equipment repairs.
  • Select and optimize palletizing patterns to minimize over-hang, eliminate product gaps, and present tightly stacked symmetrical pallets for high-quality customer presentation.
  • Verify code dates at each changeover and notify the forklift driver of changes.
  • Ensure pallets and finished products meet QA standard guidelines and are of acceptable quality.
  • Verify the palletizer is set up for the correct bag size and pattern for each product.
  • Coordinate material handling and maintain open communication with forklift drivers to prevent material shortages.
  • Communicate with Parsons/Thiele operators to plan for upcoming changeovers and change materials as needed.
  • Ensure correct materials (pallets, slip sheets, film) are used for each product.
  • Assist the manifestor in the LP process, including covering the manifest station during breaks and verifying the accuracy of LP’s, G-Code, and quantity.
  • Participate in team meetings and foster strong team cohesiveness on major issues such as direction, annual plans, and policy changes.
  • Identify and address areas lacking cohesiveness, bringing them to the team leader’s attention and working toward resolution.
  • Maintain familiarity with Simmons’ operating systems (e.g., quality, security, LEAN) and understand the role in supporting these systems.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to support business objectives.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Experience running large machines and fast-paced production (preferred).
  • Background in manufacturing with knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 55 lbs (lifting required approximately 15% of the time).
  • Ability to work in hot and cold climates.

  • Troubleshooting and maintaining palletizing equipment.
  • Optimizing stack patterns for quality and efficiency.
  • Coordination and communication with team members and forklift drivers.
  • Attention to detail in verifying product codes, quantities, and pallet quality.
