Painting Instructor

About the Role

Providing instruction in watercolor and other painting techniques. Maintain equipment, studio space, and keep supplies stocked and organized.

Responsibilities

• Create transformational experiences for each guest.
• Discuss student goals and assess level of proficiency.
• Instruction in painting techniques for both beginning and advanced students.
• Share the Sundance story of land preservation and environmental commitment as the occasion arises.
• Provide recommendations to students for further development.
• Explore indoor still life or outdoor landscape techniques.
• Maintenance of studio space and tools.
• Support the recycling program.
• Embrace and promote all facets of the Sundance Guiding Principles: vision, mission, service standards, and values.
• Exhibit job and product knowledge to accurately support and promote all Sundance departments, amenities, and programming ventures.
• Be flexible to meet business demands, work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage time appropriately.
• Work with a broad-based constituency and provide excellent service to all internal and external guests.
• Demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.
• Keep information confidential as directed in the confidentiality agreement.
• Support and comply with all Sundance policies, procedures, and standards.
• Protect Sundance assets and be a positive ambassador of Sundance inside and outside of work.

Environmental Commitment

• Support and participate in environmental programs associated with the position, such as minimizing waste, recycling, conserving energy, and purchasing/using sustainable products.
• Educate co-workers and guests on environmental ethics.
• Support vendors with similar environmental ethics.
• Decrease pollution levels and minimize the use of toxic chemicals.
• Restore wildlife habitats and carpool with co-workers to minimize carbon emissions.
• Participate in environmental or Sundance Preserve-sponsored events.

Dress Code

• All aspects of the Personal Appearance policy must be in compliance.
• Employees are required to wear nametags at all times while on duty.
• Clothing must be unwrinkled, clean, and in good condition (no rips, tears, or frays).
• Blue jeans are permitted.
• Men's shirts must be tucked in.
• Appropriate skirt length is from the knee to the ankle.
• A tailored fit is required for all clothing.
• Tank tops, halter tops, tube tops, and spaghetti straps are prohibited.
• Sleeveless shirts are permitted for females.
• Bare midriffs are prohibited.
• Proper footwear for your department is required.
• Dress sandals are permitted for females; flip-flops are prohibited in all areas.
• Tennis shoes are prohibited unless there is a business need (e.g., Mountain Operations). Fashion sneakers are allowed within department-approved parameters.
• If your department allows t-shirts, they must be in good condition and have appropriate Sundance logos.
• If your department allows baseball caps or beanies, they must be in good condition and Sundance branded.
• Employees working in retail outlets may wear t-shirts and caps sold in their area if no uniform is provided.

Sundance will reasonably accommodate employees with religious beliefs or a disability that may make it difficult to comply fully with the Personal Appearance Policy.

Pay

• $75 for the first student in class, additional $50 for the second student, $25 for each subsequent student, plus gratuity at guests' discretion.
• Group classes: $75 for the first student, $25 for each additional student, plus guaranteed gratuity per student.
• $16.50 per hour for non-class related work.

Schedule

• Part-Time, Year-Round Position.
• Variable days and shifts depending on scheduled classes.
• Instructors must report to work 30 minutes prior to each class and remain 30 minutes afterward to clean up.
• Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or general education degree (GED) and one or more years of apprenticeship or education in an art-related field.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret art instructional material and equipment manuals.
• Ability to communicate instructions and techniques to guest/students with very good communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
• General math skills to calculate customer change, evaluate area, measurements, and proportions used in creating art.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions for a classroom setting, being patient and thorough in instruction style.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment

• Occasionally required to be outdoors walking or hiking on the property.
• Required to work with a variety of paints, oils, and solvents.
