Responsibilities
- Clean and prepare surfaces by removing previous finishes using masking, grit blast, pressure washing, tool cleaning, or chemical rinse; smooth and dry surfaces before painting.
- Prepare paints using measurement equipment such as viscosity cups, thickness gages, and gloss gages; mix appropriate compounds, including epoxy paint applications.
- Apply paint using various techniques and tools, including spray equipment, airbrushes, stencils, rollers, or brushes; apply primers, pre-finishes, and finishing coats.
- Use special safety equipment such as self-contained suits, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), or protective eyewear when required.
- Clean work areas after job completion, following guidelines for safe handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals and waste; minimize overspray.
- Maintain and troubleshoot painting equipment, including technical tools.
- Monitor and document conditions in field environments, including millage testing and quality reporting for turnover packages.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience in industrial equipment painting and process piping.
- Experience with wet painting using a gun.
- Experience with blasting and all types of blasting media (e.g., sand, black beauty, glass bead).
- Understanding of N.A.C.E requirements.
- Ability to gauge millage application and document using a millage tester.
- Ability to differentiate between colors.
- Ability to work on multiple priorities with frequent interruptions.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools and equipment.
- Ability to work with all levels of employees.
- Strong communication skills.
- Detail-oriented, dependable, and able to follow instructions to produce consistent, high-quality work.
