Painter/Stainer

About the role

Prepare door slabs for painting and staining. Apply paint, varnishes, and stains to interior and/or exterior surfaces.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces for painting by removing old paint using paint removers, scrapers, wire brushes, or blowtorches.
• Fill nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers using a caulking gun or a putty knife.
• Prime surfaces as necessary.
• Successfully complete paint projects.
• Maintain tools and equipment and ensure proper and safe working condition.
• Verify proper color to be sprayed.
• Verify surface is free of defects and mix buckets of paint if necessary.
• Spray surface of door as per established SOP.
• Maintain a safe work environment.
• Maintain clean work environment.
• Ensure parts match orders.
• Perform other miscellaneous jobs as directed.

Requirements

• Ability to efficiently use air/hand tools to paint product.
• Ability to read/understand humidity chart.
• Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures with paint.
• Read and interpret ticket, door/customer quality specs.
• Identify defects.
• Knowledge of sanders, planers, hand tools, putty knife, sanding block, wood chisel.
• High attention to detail detecting defects.
• Regular attendance and timeliness is an essential function of the job.
• Follow all operational and safety SOP’s as written.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred but not required.
• Previous work experience in a production environment, preferred.
