Painter-Paper Hanger - Journeyman

Responsibilities

• Read work orders and set up equipment, including carts, drop cloths, and masking tape.
• Remove fixtures as needed and prepare surfaces using sandpaper, scrapers, brushes, steel wool, and sanding machines.
• Mix paint in buckets and apply using rollers, air sprayers, or hand tools (trowels, brushes).
• Perform repetitive rolling or spraying motions, including overhead work using scaffolds (25–100% of the day).
• Erect scaffolds and ladders for high-level surfaces.
• Apply wallpaper: measure, cut, glue, and smooth strips onto walls, removing air bubbles.
• Perform surface preparation, including filling cracks/holes with caulk, putty, or plaster.
• Apply primers, sealers, undercoats, and finish paint coats via brushing, rolling, or spraying.
• Conduct maintenance, touch-ups, and repairs.
• Prepare adhesives and install wall coverings.
• Operate, clean, and maintain equipment (brushes, rollers, sprayers, pumps, mixers, drywall tools).

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Must be a union painter in good standing with the union.

Physical Demands

• Frequently stand, walk, use hands, reach with arms, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Lift and move materials of varying sizes/weights.
• Work at heights using scaffolds, ladders, or aerial lifts.
• Required vision abilities: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
• Ability to travel as required.

Work Environment

• Indoor and outdoor settings with variable temperatures, lighting, and space dimensions.
• Walking/working surfaces include plywood, ramps, finished floors, ladders, scaffolds, and equipment.
• Required PPE: hard hats, safety glasses, leather work boots, gloves, and occasional specialty gear (respirators, harnesses, Tyvek suits).
• Tools/equipment used: hand tools, power tools, mechanical-moving devices, and access equipment.

Pay

Hourly rate for Painter Journeyman: $56.30
