Type: Full-Time, Regular | Location: Kodiak, AK | FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt | Reports to: Structures Manager

About the Role

The Maintenance Painter role requires rounded training and experience, typically acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent. The Painter is responsible for prepping, painting, and completing work efficiently while maintaining an inventory of supplies and collaborating with a team to oversee project completion.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble scaffolding as required.
  • Cover trim, floors, furniture, and other surfaces with masking tape, drop cloths, and protective coverings to prevent paint damage.
  • Set up ventilators and other safety equipment to protect against fumes; wear proper PPE.
  • Prepare surfaces by washing, filling holes and cracks with putty, and sanding until smooth.
  • Mix and match paint, stain, and other finishes to job specifications.
  • Apply coatings including oil-based enamel, epoxy, interior/exterior latex, stains, varnishes, and road marking paints using air/airless sprayers, rollers, and brushes.
  • Review production schedules and work orders to verify material delivery and priorities.
  • Confer with supervisors to report material status, location, availability, and condition.
  • Compare work ticket specifications with materials at workstations to verify delivery.
  • Transport materials between departments using a company vehicle.
  • Update inventory manually or via computerized systems.
  • Adhere to all health and safety precautions.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High school education or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Valid State of Alaska Hazardous Paint Handler Certification.
  • Clear oral and written communication in English.
  • Valid Alaska Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge of surface types and appropriate paints for different applications.
  • Experience with airless paint sprayers.
  • Ability to pass background and drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four (4) years of related work experience.
  • Experience with sheetrock wall repair.
  • Carpentry experience is a plus.

Work Environment

Work is performed in various settings, including occupied or vacant housing units and industrial spaces, often exposed to all weather conditions.

Physical Demands

  • Essential functions may require prolonged bending, stooping, sitting, walking, or standing.
  • May lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

Additional Requirements

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check for military base access.
  • Reliable transportation to/from work and access to military installations required.
  • Per collective bargaining agreement, must become and remain a member in good standing with Teamsters Local 959 Union or pay an agency fee.
