Painter I/Paint Prep (Firetrucks)

About the role
The Paint Prep position is responsible for the preparation of cabs and parts prior to painting for Spartan’s emergency response cabs and bodies.
Responsibilities
- Sanding of cabs in primer state as well as aluminum state
- Washing of cabs and parts before and after primer
- Masking of cabs to create several tones per vehicle
- Learn and retain skills and practices needed to complete duties in assigned area
- Read and follow detailed operator instructions, installation drawings, blueprints, etc., as required by a particular area
- Understand and articulate the production flow of an assigned product line or area
- Self-check work and inspect prior processes
- Use basic hand, electric, cordless, and pneumatic tools, as required
- Meet production goals
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
- Initiate process improvements
- Support 5S in work area
- Communicate with manufacturing and other cross-functional teams (engineering, materials, purchasing, sales, etc.) to resolve issues
- Work in close proximity with customer, as needed
- Solve complex problems with minimal assistance

- Body and paint experience preferred
- Working knowledge of application of fillers, putties, and primers
- Able to tolerate very high heat temperatures
- Able to be exposed to high dust and chemicals
- Able to work overtime on short notice
- Willing to wear PPE respirators for extended amounts of time
- Willing to learn and rotate within all areas pertaining to this job description
- Willing to improve self, area, and company (including pursuing additional training, if needed)
- Develop a working knowledge of Spartan’s systems (e.g., AS/400)
