About the Role
The Painter Helper assists the Manual Blast & Coat department to prepare pipe for painting, blasting, and shipment. This role involves operating various tools and equipment, interpreting technical documents, and adhering to safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing pipe for painting, blasting, and shipment.
- Operate forklifts and overhead cranes to load and unload pipe as needed.
- Use and interpret a 25' tape measure, pi tape measure, and micrometer.
- Operate a 4" right-angle hand grinder and other basic hand tools (hammers, chisels, grinders, drills, etc.).
- Read, understand, and interpret drawings, specifications, and digital readouts.
- Follow all safety policies and PPE rules, including Confined Space Entry, LOTO, and Fall Protection.
- Enter all labor into JDE before the end of shift.
- Assist with daily housekeeping activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED plus a minimum of three years of related experience in industrial-type painting.
- Proficiency with technical machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, pipe drawings, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with supervisors and other employees.
- Basic math skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, including whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure.
- Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Programs and ability to use company computer systems.
- Ability to attain multiple company certifications.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret blueprints and specification boundary sheets.
- Conscientious with great attention to detail.
- Willingness to learn new concepts, skills, and processes.
Essential Physical Functions
- Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger/handle, and talk or hear.
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
- Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles.
- Occasionally exposed to paint containing isocyanates and outside weather conditions.
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
- Involves much standing, bending, climbing, crawling, and working with arms over the head.
