About the Role
Painter performs skilled work at the journeyman level in painting buildings, fixtures, and various equipment. Work involves preparing surfaces, applying paint using brushes or spray guns, and performing tasks from scaffolding or ladders. Employees receive assignments orally or through written job orders and are inspected by a foreman or skilled superior during and after completion.
Responsibilities
- Scrape, sandpaper, prime, or seal surfaces prior to painting.
- Clean walls to ensure proper adherence.
- Cover surfaces with cloth or plastic to ensure protection.
- Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers using caulking guns or putty knives.
- Erect scaffolding, movable and immovable staging, and rigging to access difficult areas; move furniture and equipment as necessary.
- Remove fixtures such as pictures, doorknobs, lamps, and electric switch covers prior to painting.
- Work on ladders to reach high ceilings or walls.
- Apply paint, vinyl, and wallpaper, including special papers and fabrics, to walls, furniture, and structures.
- Prepare surfaces and apply paints, stains, shading stains, and clear finishes.
- Remove previous paint using sandblasting, scraping, sanding, hydro-blasting, and steam-cleaning.
- Inspect and refurbish wall surfaces using appropriate materials.
- Read blueprints and drawings for execution of painting jobs.
- Order paint supplies and materials.
- Submit finished work orders to supervisor.
- Operate and maintain various power and manual tools.
- Follow established protection procedures.
- Clean up job site after work and return equipment and tools.

- Perform all other related job duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
- High School diploma is strongly preferred.
- Valid journeyman-level license is preferred.

Physical Requirements
- Extended walking or standing.

- Lifting, pushing, or pulling objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices.
- Visual acuity for operating machines, motor vehicles, and performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks.
Environmental Conditions
- Fast-paced environment with occasional high-pressure or emergent situations.
- Frequent outdoor work with exposure to potential hazards, extreme weather, high temperatures, noisy or dusty areas, and confined spaces.
