About the Role
Fives Giddings & Lewis is seeking a skilled Painter to join our production team in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. This role involves preparing, cleaning, and painting large manufactured components while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and craftsmanship. You will contribute to products used globally and support manufacturing operations by ensuring parts are properly finished and protected for shipment.
Responsibilities
- Clean, prepare, mask, and paint components of various sizes and configurations to meet quality and appearance requirements.
- Mix paints, coatings, and catalysts to proper specifications and viscosity.
- Apply coatings using spray equipment, brushes, and rollers.
- Perform grinding, sanding, surface finishing, and Bondo application as required.
- Conduct paint and bodywork similar to automotive refinishing standards.
- Steam clean components prior to painting when required.
- Move materials and components using forklifts and overhead cranes, ensuring safe handling to prevent damage.
- Make crane hookups and operate floor-controlled cranes to position workpieces.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for cleaning and painting requirements.
- Create, update, and maintain cleaning and painting procedures and documentation with awareness of ISO 9001 and 14001 standards.
- Maintain paint usage logs, filter replacement logs, and required records.
- Monitor inventory levels of paint, filters, and other consumables.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area utilizing 5S principles.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Previous industrial, manufacturing, automotive, or heavy equipment painting experience preferred.
- Experience with Bondo application, sanding, and surface preparation.
- Ability to operate paint spray equipment, brushes, and rollers.
- Ability to operate grinders, sanders, and hand/power tools on a regular basis.
- Ability to read and follow work instructions and procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to prioritize work and adapt to changing production schedules.
- Ability to work effectively with production, manufacturing, quality, and logistics teams.
- Forklift certification preferred (or ability to obtain).
- Overhead crane certification preferred (or ability to obtain).
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting.
- Ability to work with large manufactured components and industrial equipment.
- Ability to wear required PPE, including respiratory protection as needed.
- Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing environment.
