PAINTER

About the role

Under supervision, the Painter performs a variety of tasks including inside and outside patching and painting, setting up and breaking down containment for remediation of environmental hazards, and performing pre and post renovation clean up.

Responsibilities

• Set up and/or breakdown containment for and perform remediation of environmental hazards associated with the painting trade including pre and post renovation clean up.
• Work on and from ladders, platforms, and scaffolds as jobs may require; erect ladders;
• Rig lines and scaffolds;
• Prepare, fill, and prime surfaces for painting;
• Mix paint components and match colors;
• Apply paint with a brush, roller, or spray gun to surfaces;
• Apply plaster to surfaces including skimming walls and taping joints;
• Take proper care of all materials, tools, and equipment;
• Keep work records as required;
• Hang wallpaper;
• Operate a motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties.

Requirements

• Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a painter acquired within the last fifteen years;
• Or at least three years of full-time satisfactory experience as a painter acquired within the last fifteen years and sufficient full-time satisfactory apprentice painter experience to make up a total of five years of acceptable experience.
• Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of apprentice painter experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent;
• Ability to read and understand safety rules and regulations;
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently;
• Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 65 pounds;
• Ability to work in extreme weather conditions;
• Ability to bend, kneel, and crouch while working;
• Ability to work in confined spaces;
• Ability to use vision to check color matches;
• Ability to clean mold and mildew and other unknown substances from areas to be worked on;
• Ability to scrape and repair substrates and components known or unknown to contain lead.

Skills

• Proficiency in painting techniques;
• Knowledge of safety protocols;
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
• Strong attention to detail.
