Painter
Major Responsibilities & Duties
Paints and restores walls and other surfaces including sanding, paint removal, wall covering application, and staining or varnishing.
Receives written information per job order; determines appropriate procedures, material, and equipment necessary to complete work orders; orders and picks up supplies, parts, or tools.
Prepares surfaces for painting including sanding, paint removal, and filling holes.
- Caulks windows and doors;
- Repairs furniture and replaces damaged wall coverings.
- Paints surfaces with a sprayer, roller, or paintbrush; applies wallpaper and other wall coverings as needed.
- Installs and applies drywall, plaster, drywall mud, and texture.
- Restores carved wood, desks, chairs, tables, and refinishes with stain and varnish.
- Strips parking lots and athletic fields, creates signs and banners for grounds and special events, and operates computerized vinyl letter and plastic engraving machines.
Maintains materials such as brushes, rollers, spray guns, ladders, and scaffolding, and maintains shop facilities and equipment required for maintenance repairs and safety.
Drives Boys Town vehicles as needed to complete duties of the job.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of a broad range of painting practices, techniques, tools, equipment, and safety procedures.
Ability to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions.
Ability to communicate with individuals in an articulate, professional manner.
Ability to organize assigned tasks for completion.
Required Qualifications
- On-call (continuously or rotationally) to provide support;
- Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays if needed;
- Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record and pass an annual Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) check.
Prior Experience
Previous painting experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements, Equipment Usage, Work Environment
- Moderate to heavy physical activity having to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds without assistance and 100 pounds with assistance;
- Walking or standing for extended periods of time;
- Bending, stooping, repetitive reaching and arm movement.
- Agility to work in difficult locations such as crawl spaces, attics, roofs, and closets;
- Work at heights of 10 feet or more.
Work will be indoors or outdoors where temperatures may vary from excessive heat to extreme cold, and indoor environments, and exposure to dust, noise, and fumes from paint, stains, varnish, etc.
