Painter

About the Role

Painter position at our Springfield, VA client facility. The Painter will smooth and finish surfaces and paint floors, walls, and miscellaneous surfaces using a variety of tools and materials. Must be a U.S. Citizen and possess an active Top Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI.

Responsibilities

• Apply paint, stain, varnish, enamel, and other finishes to equipment, buildings, and other structures, using brushes, spray guns, or rollers.
• Apply primers or sealers to prepare new surfaces, such as bare wood or metal, for finish coats.
• Cover surfaces with canvas drop cloth or masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting.
• Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives.
• Read work orders or receive instructions from supervisors to determine work requirements.
• Remove fixtures such as frames, doorknobs, lamps, and electric switch covers prior to painting.
• Remove old finishes by stripping, sanding, wire brushing, burning, or using water and/or abrasive blasting.
• Smooth surfaces, using sandpaper, scrapers, brushes, steel wool, and/or sanding machines.
• Erect scaffolding and swing gates, or set up ladders, to work above ground level.
• Waterproof buildings, using waterproofing membranes and caulking.
• Perform other qualified duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two (2) years of experience in paint preparation, painting, sanding, and scuffing or a related field.
• Knowledge of preparation and painting of equipment, buildings, and other structures, support equipment, and components, for both interior and exterior work.
• Ability to work independently with good decision-making skills.
• Ability to recognize occupational hazards of the painting trade and take precautionary measures as needed.
• Additional knowledge/skills may be required by contract or assignment.
• Additional experience/education may be required by contract or assignment.

Work Environment

• Ability to lift/carry at least 50 lbs.
• Living and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable.
• Long hours, exposure to weather, and hazardous conditions.

Pay

$38.99 per hour
