About the Role

Industrial Journeyman Painter / Blaster responsible for painting equipment and structures for protection and cosmetic purposes. The position involves maintaining, mixing, and applying paint and other coating materials to meet contract or specification requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints and specifications to determine the scope of work, including locations, quantities, and sizes of materials required.
  • Identify all tools required for tasks and ensure proper use and techniques (stroke types) for each paint/coating and surface.
  • Identify safety risks and implement precautions to eliminate those risks.
  • Measure, mark, and cut wooden/metallic materials to required specifications.
  • Identify and mix paint and coatings as required.
  • Work at heights and off ladders and scaffolds safely.
  • Set up machines, including rolling hoses, prepping machines, and assembling fittings.
  • Operate and inspect equipment such as shotguns with high pressure, moleing, lancing, and 3D systems with high-pressure water (10,000–40,000 psi).
  • Perform cleanup in blast buildings, including shoveling and sweeping.
  • Oversee and provide expertise to helper and laborer positions as needed.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience as a Painter or Painter Helper on an industrial construction project.
  • Ability to read blueprints, plans, and drawings proficiently.
  • Knowledge of materials, tools, and processes involved in basic painting techniques and paint qualities.
  • Ability to identify the relationship between materials to be painted and the technique, mixture, and number of coatings required.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work a full work schedule and additional overtime with little to no notification.
  • Commitment to working safely and following all safety rules and regulations.
  • Adherence to all company and site rules and regulations.
  • Possession of required tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current Zachry or Zachry ROF’ed employee.
  • Former experience working with Zachry Industrial, Inc.
  • National Center for Construction Education and Research’s (NCCER) certification for Industrial Journeyman Painter.
  • Formal/technical education.
  • Experience working with scaffolding, insulation, and painting.

Physical Requirements

  • Adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting.
  • Communicate through talking and hearing.
  • Use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
  • Lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and work off platforms and man lifts.
  • Occasionally work on open structures using appropriate fall protection requirements.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and leather work boots.
