About the role

As an Aircraft Paint Technician, you will transform aircraft with creative and detailed paintwork, from standard stripes to intricate designs. This hands-on role is ideal for individuals with a creative edge and a passion for precision.

  • Masking and taping aircraft parts to avoid overspray
  • Sanding primer
  • Blowing and cleaning aircraft with thinner
  • Washing the paint booth
  • Applying all layers of paint, including top coat
  • Laying out stripe and design schemes
  • Prepping and scuffing paint for trim
  • Re-masking aircraft and performing detail work
  • Inspecting completed paint jobs
  • Paint mixing and matching
  • Effectively communicating (speaking, writing, reading) in English
  • Performing other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management

Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Vocational-technical school training in paint or on-the-job experience is preferred but not required. A valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal.

Experience Levels

  • Tech I: 0-2 years of paint experience in aviation, auto, RV, marine, or related field. Limited to no prior knowledge; requires close supervision.
  • Tech II: 2-4 years of experience. Considerable knowledge of the job with broad understanding of details; requires general supervision.
  • Tech III: 4-6 years of experience. Full knowledge of the job; limited supervision required and can act as a trainer or mentor.
  • Master Tech: 6+ years of experience in aviation interiors. Subject matter expert with comprehensive knowledge of the job.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Routine walking, bending, squatting, or sitting
  • Work standing on ladders or scaffolds
  • Pass pulmonary physical and respiratory fit test (required for protective gear)

Mental Requirements

  • Understanding and implementation of regulations (OSHA, hazmat, etc.)
  • Logical work with mechanical processes
  • Professional collaboration with others
  • Strong communication skills

Working Conditions

  • Majority of work in a heated hangar or shop area
  • Occasional work on the aircraft ramp
  • Varied positions in and around aircraft

Equipment Used

  • Air equipment, polisher, and sander
  • Stripper pump, electrostatic paint guns, pressure pots, and laser level
  • Tugs, power carts, and other engine-powered equipment
