About the role
The Paint Helper supports the Paint Lead by preparing surfaces, assisting in paint application, and ensuring quality finishes on automotive and industrial components. This role requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and a willingness to learn and contribute as part of a team.
Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces by sanding, cleaning, and removing grease, dirt, rust, or old paint
- Mask and protect areas not being painted using tape and paper
- Remove and reinstall accessories such as mirrors and trim
- Assist with painting small parts and learn to meet industry paint quality standards
- Select and operate spray guns and apply correct paint materials
- Apply primers, sealers, undercoats, caulking, and protective coatings
- Inspect painted surfaces, identify defects, and help correct issues
- Perform finishing work such as buffing and waxing
- Operate lifting or moving equipment as needed
- Cross-train and assist in other departments when needed
Requirements
- 1-3 years of automotive painting or auto body experience required
- (No residential, commercial, or powder coating experience)
- Apprenticeship or formal training in automotive paint preferred
- Strong attention to detail and quality control
- High school diploma or GED required
- Experience using spray guns and related painting equipment
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Physical requirements: Ability to perform medium to heavy lifting, frequently lift up to 25 lbs; occasionally up to 50 lbs (team lift required above 50 lbs), ability to work at heights up to 20 feet, comfortable in a physically demanding work environment
