Responsibilities

  • Performs responsibilities of post-anesthesia care and conducts discharge teaching.
  • Evaluates readiness for patient discharge and collaborates with the anesthesiologist and surgeon in the discharge process.
  • Facilitates process of patient management in the surgical center.
  • Collaborates with the front office staff on intake process as needed.
  • Assists with pre-op assessment and teaching.
  • Plans and prepares for interoperative nursing care of the patient.
  • Delegates duties only to competent appropriate personnel.
  • Reports any potential or actual adverse event as appropriate.
  • Determines if patient is ready for discharge.
  • Documents clearly and maintains the patient record.
  • Maintains pleasant and open communication with patients, families, staff and physicians.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Minimum one year of recent Pre/Pacu nursing preferred.
  • BLS and ACLS certification required.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
  • Working knowledge of office equipment and Software.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, insurance regulations, policies, procedures, and medical terminology, telephone protocol and professional etiquette.
  • Understanding of electronic medical systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills (i.e. using expressive vocabulary that communicates a complete and detailed message, avoiding spelling errors, employing a respectful tone).
  • Ability to maintain enthusiasm while facing a high volume and a large variety of duties.
  • Ability and interest in learning procedures and software functionalities that could improve the effectiveness and efficiency of individual and department efforts.
  • Organized, with the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Interprets, adapts and applies guidelines and procedures appropriately.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective and professional working relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers and the public by demonstrating empathy and tact.
  • Maintains the strictest confidentiality on all patient issues.
