Responsibilities
- Performs responsibilities of post-anesthesia care and conducts discharge teaching.
- Evaluates readiness for patient discharge and collaborates with the anesthesiologist and surgeon in the discharge process.
- Facilitates process of patient management in the surgical center.
- Collaborates with the front office staff on intake process as needed.
- Assists with pre-op assessment and teaching.
- Plans and prepares for interoperative nursing care of the patient.
- Delegates duties only to competent appropriate personnel.
- Reports any potential or actual adverse event as appropriate.
- Determines if patient is ready for discharge.
- Documents clearly and maintains the patient record.
- Maintains pleasant and open communication with patients, families, staff and physicians.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Minimum one year of recent Pre/Pacu nursing preferred.
- BLS and ACLS certification required.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
- Working knowledge of office equipment and Software.
- Familiarity with HIPAA, insurance regulations, policies, procedures, and medical terminology, telephone protocol and professional etiquette.
- Understanding of electronic medical systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills (i.e. using expressive vocabulary that communicates a complete and detailed message, avoiding spelling errors, employing a respectful tone).
- Ability to maintain enthusiasm while facing a high volume and a large variety of duties.
- Ability and interest in learning procedures and software functionalities that could improve the effectiveness and efficiency of individual and department efforts.
- Organized, with the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
- Interprets, adapts and applies guidelines and procedures appropriately.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective and professional working relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers and the public by demonstrating empathy and tact.
- Maintains the strictest confidentiality on all patient issues.
