Howmet Dover Alloy is a world-class supplier of vacuum and air-melted nickel- and cobalt-based superalloys to aerospace, gas turbine, medical, and other high-technology industrial markets.
This Packer position is based at our Howmet Casting facility in Dover, New Jersey. The work schedule for this Midnight Shift role is Sunday night through Thursday night, 10:30 PM to 7:00 AM. Training will be conducted on the Day Shift, Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM.
Responsibilities
Environmental Health & Safety
- Assist in the implementation of EHS Values and policy statements and accompanying principles.
- Comply with all department, facility, corporate, and regulatory EHS regulations.
- Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report all job-related illness and injuries (per Employee Handbook).
- Report all safety, health, and environmental concerns to your supervisor in a timely manner.
- Attend all EHS training.
Essential Job Functions
- Receive castings and examine the accompanying lot ticket to verify completion of X-ray, Zyglo, Dimensional Inspection, Magnetic Inspection, and other operations as required by a routing procedure sheet.
- Coordinate with the supervisor to ensure accuracy and completeness of previous operations and indicate any discrepancies.
- Check the Master Heat Log to confirm heat numbers and heat batches match approved master heat certifications; notify Heat Treat if discrepancies exist.
- Sort castings according to heat numbers, alloy numbers, and properly approved cavity numbers.
- Type stencils using information from marking instructions and memos from Quality.
- Package marked castings into compartmented shipping containers.
- Route properly identified castings to X-ray in predetermined quantities; verify films returned with castings for coinciding and positioning.
Interpersonal Responsibilities
This role involves frequent internal contact with production planning, quality, and metal departments.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- No relocation benefit is offered; candidates residing within a 50-mile radius of Dover, NJ will only be considered.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, with little advanced notice.
- This position entails access to export-controlled items; employment offers are conditioned upon the ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Intermediate computer skills.
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Previous packing experience is helpful.
Physical Demands & Equipment Used
- Frequent walking and standing.
- Frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds.
Equipment used includes: Vibropeen machine, electrolytic etch machine, dot matrix marking machine, Air Flow Machine, and Alloy Verification Scanner.
Pay
New Hire Starting Hourly Rate: $24.24. After 12 months: $26.96. The position will receive an hourly "shift premium" while assigned to an off-shift.
