The Packaging Operator works at the last stages of the cheese manufacturing line to pack finished products, label them, and aggregate them for storage or shipment to distribution outlets.

Responsibilities

• Perform packaging operations in accordance with product packaging specifications.
• Sort products for packaging and filling machine operation.
• Monitor production order fill rate and packaging line efficiencies.
• Replenish packaging materials as needed.
• Inspect in-process packaging to ensure consistent quality and remove defective products and packaging material.
• Segregate finished packaged items that conform to specifications and separate rejected items.
• Conduct inventory counts on finished and rejected packaged items.
• Monitor packaging and filling operations to ensure quality and conformity of packaged products in accordance with standards.
• Adjust machines and equipment for smooth operations and complete pre-op inspections before start-up.
• Monitor the packaging production line to prevent bottlenecks, pileups, jams, or misplaced labels.
• Set up and change over machines for product runs.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Experience in packaging or other manufacturing operations is a plus.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
• Strong communication skills, teamwork, and interaction with staff at all levels of the company.
• Computer literate with basic knowledge of Microsoft Word.
• Thorough knowledge of Tillamook products.

Physical Requirements

• Use tools to break open flaps on boxes and grip boxes to shake/remove blocks of cheese.
• Frequently generate 62 lbs of grip strength.
• Frequent lifting and moving of boxes and tubs of cheese (up to 45 lbs).
• Standing and lifting 45 lbs from 6" to 34" (waist height) and carrying for 6 feet.
• Frequent lifting and moving of tubs and blocks of cheese, including raising and lowering 45 lb tubs/blocks from pallet to conveyor at heights of 34" to 54".
• Moving pallets with a hand pallet jack and pushing multiple tubs of cheese on carts.
• Push/pull capacity for trim/grind and pallet relocation.
• Placing 45 lbs from pallet to conveyor belt.
• Standing and moving 45 lbs from a 34" shelf to a stationary platform at 34".
• Pulling product-sized pieces of cheese from a 40 lb block of cheese.
• Pulling 2 lb Velcro pieces apart.
