About the Role
The Packaging Shift Lead will supervise a team in various packaging functions, operating the bottle filler, canning line, and kegger, as well as directing CIPs and preventative maintenance. This role is responsible for managing daily operations of the assigned line, including staffing and team supervision, to ensure efficient, quality production of products. The Shift Lead will coordinate day-to-day work with the Packaging Management Team and is accountable for following safety brewery guidelines, SOPs, and cleaning procedures.
Schedule
2nd Shift: Monday–Thursday, 4:00 PM–2:00 AM
Pay
Total pay includes a $28/hour base wage plus a $3/hour 2nd shift premium ($31/hour total).
Responsibilities
- Create weekly shift staffing schedule based on vacation schedules and approve/deny PTO.
- Confirm proper packaging mix and materials (PakTechs, Crowns, Lids, Keg Collars, etc.) based on BBT volume before kegging/filling.
- Maintain an up-to-date snapshot of all BBTs to ensure fluid information transfer to the packaging team.
- Coordinate the Master Training Matrix to ensure employees are trained efficiently and designate training needs for shift employees.
- Develop and/or update SOPs for tasks associated with the master training matrix and communicate changes to the Packaging Manager.
- Create a daily shift report for the respective shift.
- Communicate maintenance issues to the team and submit work orders.
- Compile production data from each run into Excel, print reports, and deliver them to the Packaging Manager (includes QA/QC Sheet, Pallet Tickets, BBT paperwork, Packaging Run Sheet).
- Supervise a team of 7–10 individuals, ensuring daily/weekly/monthly tasks are upheld per shift.
- Delegate tasks during downtime, triage employee requests, and work to decrease downtime on the production floor.
- Assist on machines as needed and maintain a clean workspace.
- Meet with the Packaging Management Team weekly.
Requirements
- Able to complete packaging release targets, including sterile sample collection and taking O2/CO2 measurements using a Gehaltemeter or C-Box (as determined by training matrix).
- Able to drive a forklift for movement of raw goods (cans, bottles) and finished goods (cases, trays, kegs).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift 55 lbs and move 165 lbs as needed.
- Ability to bend, stoop, and reach repetitively.
- Maintain confidentiality with business-related information.
- Flexibility with working hours.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
- Complete duties as assigned and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
- Follow all PPE and GMP requirements.
