Packaging Engineer
Background & Purpose of the Job
The North America Foods business unit has been identified as a key growth area for Unilever globally. A robust end-to-end agenda has been created for historical growth over the next 3-5 years. The primary purpose of this role is to lead packaging activities to deliver best-in-class packaging innovations, drive sustainability, and impactful cost-saving programs for the entire Unilever Condiments category, including Unilever Premium Condiment brands.
Who You Are & What You’ll Do
- You will be responsible for delivering key packaging activities to deliver Innovations, Cost Savings, Business Continuity, and Sustainability programs on time and within scope.
- You will manage multiple package development projects and prioritize tasks based on timelines.
- You will work effectively in a cross-functional team environment, collaborating with Brand, Planning, Product Group R&D, Procurement, Quality, and material suppliers.
- You will use previous experience to ideate and implement large-scale cost-saving programs, demonstrating influence and leadership skills to gain stakeholder buy-in and drive projects from concept to completion.
- You will interface with Manufacturing and Supply Chain for packaging-related projects, including line trials, production start-ups, cost savings, improving line efficiencies related to packaging, and resolving documentation issues for specifications.
- You will communicate and collaborate effectively with teams composed of individuals with technical and non-technical backgrounds and perspectives.
- You will provide technical guidance to junior team members, hold suppliers accountable, and challenge the status quo.
What You’ll Need To Succeed
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Science or engineering equivalent
- 2 to 4 years' experience in the packaging field
- Strong understanding of rigid packaging, with relevant qualification experience on different molding platforms
- Demonstrated understanding of package development process and engineering principles
- Ability to design and develop primary and secondary packaging components that meet consumer, brand, customer, and manufacturing objectives
- General understanding of project management to realize the order, importance, and impact of appropriate project activities and maintain Packaging commitments to project scheduling
- Understanding of consumer, business, and category needs and the relationship to packaging decisions and execution
Pay
The pay range for this position is $71,400 to $107,200. Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.
Bonus
This position is bonus eligible.
