Purpose of the Job

The Packaging Engineer is responsible for initiating and implementing technical improvements in plant packaging systems, preventing and resolving packaging-related process and equipment issues, and improving packaging line capability, efficiency, and product quality. This role provides technical leadership for packaging operations within the manufacturing plant by driving process standardization, supporting equipment reliability, and building operator and maintenance knowledge through continuous improvement and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) practices.

  • ProvideTechnicalLeadershipforPackagingProcessImprovementsandControls
  • Conductprocessaudittoreviewcriticalpackagingvariablesandfinishedgoodsrequirementsandimplementsustainablecorrectiveactionsforprocessshiftsorupsets.
  • Asevaluatepackaginglineconsistency,processcapability,andequipmentperformancetoimprovereliabilityandthroughput.
  • Implementmonitoringandcontrolemethodsforcriticalpackagingprocessvariablesandpackagingqualitystandards.
  • Developandimplementoperatorcontrolplansandstandardworktoensurepackagingoutputmeetsspecificationatthelowestpracticalcost.
  • Identifyandeliminatecommoncausesofvariation,downtime,andpackagingdefects.
  • Analyzepackaginglinedata,providefeedback,andmakerecommendationstointermpackagingOEE,quality,andcostperformance.
  • Partnerwithplantleadership,maintenance,andtechnicalresourcestoidentifyandimplementpackagingimprovementsandbestpractices.
  • Implementcorrectionalactionsforknownpackagingissues.
  • Coach,counsel,andtrainemployeesonpackagingprocesscontrol,equipmentoperation,andtroubleshooting.
  • Establishandsustainstandardprocessesforcriticalpackagingtasksandauditforadherenceandcompliance.
  • Partnerswithmaintenancetoresolvetroubleshootingandresolvemachinerepairissues.
  • Identify,scope,andsupportcapitalrequestsforpackagingequipmentupgrades,reliabilityimprovements,andmodifications.
  • Coach,Train,andMentorPackagingOperatorsandMaintenanceTechnicians
  • Educateplantemployeesonpackagingsystems,packagingprocesscontrols,andstandardoperatingprocedures.
  • PartnerwithmaintenancetodevelopandimplementTPMplansforpackagingequipmenttoimproveyourunderstanding,ownership,andreliability.
  • Partnerwithplantandproducttechnicalresourcestoensurepackagingstandardsandspecificationsareachievableandcapableinthemanufacturingenvironment.
  • Supportpackagematerialandequipmentchangesbyensuringplantdocumentation,settings,andoperatingexpectationremainaligned.
  • ProvideTechnicalLeadershipandProjectManagementtoImprovethenPackagingQuality,EquipmentUptime,andLineUtilization
  • UseTPMandstructuredproblem-solvingmethodologiestoimprovecapability,processcapability,andequipmentreliability.
  • Identify,understand,andteachotherspackagingrequirementsneededtodeliveraqualityproducttothecustomer.
  • Developandimplementproceduresandsystemstosurethatpackagingoutputconsistentlymeetsortheneedsexpectationsofinternalandcustomercustomers.
  • Leadplantpackaginglettersthenewmaterials,settings,andequipmentchangestovalidateperformanceandfitnessforuse.
  • Applysoundengineeringpracticestowardthecompletionofpackagingimprovementprojectsinthepackagingplant.
  • ProvideTechnicalLeadershipforPackagingProcessesandEquipment
  • Understandcurrentpackagingprocesscapability,reducervariation,andensurespackagedproductqualityandconsistencytoimproveoverallcustomerexperience.
  • Continuouslyimprovethepackagingproductivitythroughprocesstechnology,equipmentperformance,materialutilization,laborefficiency,andaffectiveness.
  • Serveasplantleadforpackaging-relatedtrialsbydevelopingtrialplans,communicatingwithstakeholders,andsuredisciplinedexecution.
  • Drivincrementalpackagingprocessdevelopmentandimplementimprovementsthatsupportsafety,quality,andspeed.
  • Maintainandassistindevolopmentofpackagingprocessstandards,settings,anddocumentationtomeetmanufacturingspecifications.
  • Networkwithplant,maintenance,andtechnicalresourcestoleverageknowledgeandrapidlydeploypackagingbestpractices.
  • Participateinscopedevelopmentandexecutionofpackagingplantprojectstoensuresafety,performance,schedule,andcostgoalsaremetormastered.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
  • TPM training and experience or similar continuous improvement methodology
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment with exposure to packaging processes, equipment, or line support

Preferred Experience

  • Background in plant manufacturing, packaging equipment, continuous improvement, and technical leadership
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities including general knowledge of Root Cause Failure Analysis or equivalent process, strong analytical skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to organize and lead multi-functional teams to achieve plant objectives, strong listening and comprehension skills, strong at managing projects through completion, ability to lead change through influence and without having direct line leadership of the team, strong problem-solving skills to quickly assess situations, develop appropriate solutions, and manage execution, ability to use plant data and TPM methodologies for packaging problem-solving, loss elimination, and decision-making, able to create and implement strategic and operations plans, effective with verbal and written communication, external perspective and understands that all business opportunities start with knowledge of how to create value for customer, able to achieve results fast both individually and through teams, able to utilize OC systems and the necessary software
