About the role

Ghirardelli Chocolate Company is seeking a Packaging Engineer to design and develop packaging solutions for new and existing products. This role focuses on commercializing packaging designs for retail, foodservice, and inter-company products while improving existing designs for structural and production efficiency. The Packaging Engineer ensures product integrity through distribution testing and collaborates cross-functionally with teams such as Marketing, Purchasing, Operations, QA, R&D, and Sales.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the main point of contact and spokesperson for packaging across multiple brands.
  • Design, develop, and commercialize new packages, line extensions, and package improvements.
  • Provide technical leadership to create new business opportunities, enhance quality, and reduce costs.
  • Identify and implement productivity projects, including package redesign, component consolidation, and production line efficiencies.
  • Conduct packaging line trials, distribution testing, and package performance testing for new and existing products.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Marketing, Procurement, and Creative Services.
  • Work with Plant Operations, Suppliers, and Co-packers to ensure high-quality packaging components that run efficiently on production lines.
  • Develop and maintain packaging specifications, pallet configurations, and packaging procedures.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and databases.
  • Oversee packaging design, development, and efficiency improvements at co-packing and co-manufacturing locations in Northern California.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, packaging quality, and food safety standards.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Packaging Engineering or equivalent.
  • 2-5 years of experience in consumer products or a related industry; food-related packaging development preferred.
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work seated or standing for at least 8 hours.
  • Must be able to concentrate for extended periods while paying close attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Works in a regular office environment.

Pay

Salary Range: $83,800 - $108,929
