PAC Program - Recreation Aide, Instructor, and Leader (Part-Time)

About the role

The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking highly motivated, friendly, and outgoing individuals with experience working with school-age children for vacancies in the Phoenix Afterschool Center (PAC) Program. Work sites are located in schools throughout the City of Phoenix.

The PAC Program is an out-of-school time recreation program where school-age youth participate in a variety of age-appropriate, developmental activities that are fun, stimulating, and enriching.

Positions and Pay

• Parks & Recreation Aides - $17.65/hour: Entry-level positions performing recreation work. Duties may include cleaning and setting up for special events, custodial work, clerical support, and assisting with recreation programs such as arts and crafts, dance classes, social events, group games, and physical and sporting events.
• Recreation Instructors - $18.52/hour: Develop, implement, and guide recreation activities; supervise children in sports programs and recreation classes; assist with special events; plan, schedule, and conduct classes in arts and crafts, dance, drama, music, sports, and games; facilitate city-wide sports leagues and tournaments.
• Recreation Leaders - $19.45/hour: Lead Recreation Aides, Instructors, and volunteers; manage a facility or major program area; provide recreational programming in an afterschool setting; ensure participant safety; create and facilitate programming and events; communicate with school administration; attend monthly meetings.

Schedule

The PAC program follows the public-school schedule (2026-2027, present through May 2027) and is not in session during school breaks or City holidays. Hours vary by school site, typically 2 PM - 6 PM, with one early-release day per week as early as 11:30 AM. Staff must attend monthly evening trainings.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate can provide customer service, implement recreational and sports activities, and plan educational enrichment programs for youth.

Requirements

• Parks and Recreation Aides: Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Recreation Instructors: Completion of the 12th grade.
• Recreation Leaders: Sixty semester hours of college work and a minimum of one year of related experience, or a bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Education, or a related field. Other combinations of education and experience may be acceptable if they provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• For All Positions: All finalists are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
