About the role

The Sr. Physician Assistant (PA) provides clinically expert patient care in support of the Urology Service. The PA serves as a primary, consistent point of access for all general urology and subspecialty patients at East Campus and manages continuity of care in the ambulatory setting.

Responsibilities

• Provides patient evaluations, history and physical exams, and development and execution of treatment plans.
• Coordinates patient care with nursing staff, discharges patients, and manages patient health issues, prioritizing and resolving issues as needed.
• Manages and documents all communications in the electronic medical record system.
• Involves physicians, the resident team, nursing staff, family, and other relevant team members to provide comprehensive care.
• Performs initial history and physical examinations, identifies major medical problems, formulates appropriate plans of action, and prepares clear medical reports, laboratory data, and progress notes.
• Communicates effectively with patients and other healthcare personnel, and provides clear written, verbal, and telephone communication.
• Affords clear and effective reporting of patient daily status and progress to physicians and other medical care personnel.
• Maintains good working relationships and communications with physicians-in-charge, laboratory personnel, and members of the healthcare team.
• Demonstrates knowledge of medical ethics and laws, and instructs housestaff, medical students, physicians, nurses, and other medical personnel in all aspects of acute and chronic care.
• Manages patient health issues, prioritizes and resolves issues, and escalates to physicians as appropriate.

Requirements

• Graduate from a physician assistant program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
• California Physician Assistant (PA) license.
• Current PA Certification from NCCPA.
• Minimum one (1) year of Urology experience as a PA.
• Knowledge of common urologic problems and treatments.
• Theoretical background in anatomy, physiology, general medicine, pulmonary, emergency, and critical care medicine, management of common diseases, concepts of medicine and surgery, therapeutics, including pharmacology, counseling techniques, and interpersonal dynamics.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology.
• Ability to perform initial history and physical examination, identify major medical problems, and formulate appropriate plans of action.
• Writing skills to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data, and progress notes, as well as policies, procedures, and protocols for patient care management.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients and other health care personnel, and skill at providing clear written, verbal, and telephone communication with a wide variety of people.
• Ability to assess the daily status and progress of patients and report this effectively to the physician and other medical care personnel associated with the patient.
• Knowledge of medical ethics and law practices, pertaining to medical and medical socioeconomics.
• Knowledge necessary for instructing housestaff, medical students, physicians, nurses, and other medical personnel in all aspects of acute and chronic care.
• Knowledge of medical ethics and law practices, pertaining to medical and medical socioeconomics.

Qualifications

Pay

Annual Full Pay Range: $170,652 - $224,815 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hiring Pay Scale: $77.84 - $102.54 / Hour
