About the role

The Sr. Physician Assistant - Cardiac Medicine position is within the Department of Medicine at UC San Diego. This role involves direct care to cardiac patients, serving as a liaison between patients and physicians, and managing patient care.

Responsibilities

• Provides routine care and management of patients with acute and chronic complaints, collaborating with physicians and other team members.
• Develops and implements patient care plans, evaluates and manages patient population, and collaborates with Attending Physicians.
• Participates in care coordination, patient tracking, and documentation, while working closely with the physician.
• Manages the health care needs of identified patient populations, practicing consistent with Professional Standards of Practice.
• Performs operational level duties as described in the Series Concept, focusing on direct patient care delivery.

Requirements

• Graduate from a physician assistant program approved by ARC-PA.
• California Physician Assistant (PA) license.
• Current PA Certification from NCCPA.
• BLS and ACLS certifications at time of hire, with commitment to obtain ART within six months of hire date.
• A minimum of two (2) years of experience providing cardiovascular inpatient and/or outpatient care to complex cardiology patients, including transplant and LVAD populations.
• Knowledge of common diagnostic tests, exams, procedures used in adult medicine.
• Ability to interpret lab test and diagnostic results commonly used in the clinical area.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and basic medical equipment, with ability to be trained in the use of specialized medical equipment.
• Writing skills to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data, and progress notes.
• Excellent assessment skills, including analyzing and interpreting data in a meaningful way, and ability to make clinically sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to assess the daily status and progress of patients and report this effectively to the physician in-charge and other medical care personnel associated with the patient.
• Proficiency in complete care of the cardiac patient, including ability to write orders regarding execution of inpatient plans of treatment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to communicate clearly and accurately both verbally and in writing, and using tact and diplomacy in order to interact effectively with all levels of professional staff and a diversity of patients.
• Knowledge of medical ethics and law practices.
• Ability to follow policies, procedures, and standards of patient care practice.
• Knowledge and skills in the fields of Cardiovascular Medicine.
• Ability to properly counsel patients and families, particularly in delicate situations.

Pay

The annual full pay range for this position is $170,652 - $224,815, with an hourly equivalent range of $81.73 - $107.67. The hiring pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.

Schedule

Most shifts are 6:30am-7:00pm; must also be willing to work swing and night shifts on a rotating basis.
