PA or CRNP, Staff or Senior - Pediatric Genetics/Genomic Medicine

UPMC Children's Hospital is seeking a Full-Time Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner to support our Pediatric Genetics and Genomic Medicine group. This is a predominantly outpatient role within Pediatric Genetics and Genomic Medicine.

About the Role

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will work collaboratively with geneticists, genetic counselors, nurses, and support staff to provide comprehensive care for patients with genetic and genomic conditions. Occasional travel to outreach clinic locations may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient evaluations for both pediatric and adult patients
  • Conduct follow-up visits
  • Coordinate genetic testing
  • Review and disclose test results
  • Provide patient education
  • Coordinate care across multidisciplinary teams
  • Apply basic professional practice knowledge and skills appropriate for the practice setting
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in documentation
  • Demonstrate critical thinking in all areas of professional practice
  • Formulate a plan of care considering individual patient needs
  • Demonstrate initiative and seek opportunities to improve clinical practice
  • Build relationships with patients, families, and colleagues
  • Identify ethical situations and seek assistance
  • Actively engage in clinical development of healthcare team members
  • Seek and utilize performance feedback for learning and improvement
  • Identify patient and family education needs and provide basic education
  • Demonstrate knowledge of research and evidence-based practice
  • Identify opportunities for clinical improvement
  • Demonstrate cultural awareness and workplace safety
  • Make recommendations for improving clinical care and workplace health
  • Set priorities and serve as an engaged team member
  • Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan
  • Assess and interpret patient data to identify age-specific needs
  • Provide care as described in department policies and procedures

Requirements

  • Prior APP experience preferred
  • Strong communication skills
  • Interest in rare disease
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with executives, managers, physicians, providers, staff, patients, and families
  • Ability to work productively in a complex environment with multiple priorities
  • Critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Good clinical judgment
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients

Qualifications

Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP)

  • Successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program
  • BSN, MSN preferred
  • Professional nursing experience and/or nurse practitioner experience preferred
  • Current state RN license and CRNP certification
  • National certification, eligible for licensure by Pennsylvania board of nursing, eligible for certification as a CRNP by Pennsylvania state board of nursing
  • Current CPR certification
  • Act 33, Act 73, and Act 34 Clearances required

Physician Assistant (PA)

  • Graduate of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
  • BS or MS preferred
  • Experience as a physician assistant and/or in a clinical setting preferred
  • Current state PA license certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Current CPR certification
  • Act 33, Act 73, and Act 34 Clearances required

Senior Level

  • Minimum 3 years of experience or completion of a post-graduate residency
  • Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program or graduate of an ARC-PA accredited physician assistant program
  • BSN, MSN preferred for CRNP; BS or MS preferred for PA
  • National certification
  • Solid/Strong/Good performance rating or higher on annual performance evaluation
  • Completion of an OAPP approved professional contribution within one year of hire or promotion
  • Department chair approval for promotion
  • ACLS, ITLS, NALS, PALS, or other AHA-standard certifications (including didactic and skills demonstration) within 30 days of hire

Schedule

Monday-Friday, primarily daylight hours, 40 hours per week.
