PA/NP - Hematology Oncology Outpatient

Full-time position in a very busy Hematology/Oncology practice. Schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. This position will primarily work with one provider but will also cover and assist all providers in the office.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical services under the supervision of a licensed physician, consistent with the PA's/NP's education, training, and experience.
• Perform and document accurate, complete, and relevant history and physical assessments appropriate for the patient's age, gender, and clinical problem.
• Order, perform, and interpret laboratory tests and diagnostic studies/procedures in collaboration with physicians and consultants as appropriate.
• Manage general medical and surgical conditions based on comprehensive knowledge of etiologies, risk factors, pathophysiology, and the indications and contraindications of pharmacologic agents and other treatment modalities.
• Prescribe medication safely and effectively in accordance with best practices, hospital policy, and New Jersey regulations, providing patient education as needed.
• Promote Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) PA/APN practice recognition locally, nationally, and internationally through conferences, publications, and presentations.
• Provide patient- and family-centered, compassionate, and effective care for the promotion of health and treatment of disease.
• Practice as a healthcare provider according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and bylaws as outlined in the delineation of privileges.
• Apply evidence-based and value-based medicine to systematically analyze and improve patient care practices and outcomes.
• Evaluate patient/family transition of care planning, considering resource utilization, cost, quality, safety, and self-management promotion for chronic conditions.
• Demonstrate clinical expertise through advanced assessment and procedural skills pertinent to the practice specialty.
• Translate "best practice" into clinical practice by evaluating current protocols and standards of care.
• Provide culturally sensitive and educationally appropriate health management education to patients and families.
• Facilitate consistent, coordinated care and clear communication among all members of the healthcare team through participation in daily interdisciplinary rounds.
• Serve as an advocate for patients and families, identifying and addressing obstacles to care progression and escalating issues as appropriate.
• Act as a clinical resource for the multidisciplinary team by addressing clinical, process, and system improvement opportunities.
• Participate in organizational and departmental meetings, committees, and workgroups as necessary.
• Demonstrate the highest level of accountability for professional practice and adhere to ethical principles regarding patient confidentiality, informed consent, and adverse outcomes.
• Promote a collaborative work environment supporting the organizational mission, behavior expectations, values, and pillars.
• Mentor other PAs/APNs, precept students in PA/APN programs, and participate in educational programs as a clinical expert.
• Identify patient/family educational needs and collaborate to implement appropriate teaching materials.
• Promote innovation by integrating new clinical knowledge into practice.
• Participate in clinical research activities and disseminate findings through practice, education, presentations, and publications.
• Identify ethical care issues and coordinate interdisciplinary meetings to resolve them.
• Complete medication reconciliations as appropriate.
• Participate in annual APN peer review (for Nurse Practitioners).
• Collaborate with medical staff to support nursing-led protocols (for Nurse Practitioners).
• Facilitate and participate in nursing educational programs as a clinical expert (for Nurse Practitioners).
• Adhere to HMH and department-specific scope of services, policies, and procedures as applicable to the role.
• Comply with all HMH infection control and safety policies.
• Adhere to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
• Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Requirements

For Nurse Practitioners:

• Graduate of an NLN/AACN accredited nursing program.
• Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
• Maintain clinical competencies through continuing education and clinical practice.
• Experience in a relevant patient care setting (or as regulations dictate).
• National Provider Identifier (NPI).
• Prescriptive authority through CDS and DEA registration according to New Jersey state law.
• Collaborative agreement with physicians on staff.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

For Physician Assistants:

• Successful completion of an approved physician assistant program, accredited by the AMA Council on Medical Education.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications Required:

For Nurse Practitioners:

• New Jersey State Professional Registered Nurse License.
• Advanced Nurse Practitioner certification (with Master's Degree).
• AHA Basic Health Care Life Support (BLS) HCP Certification.
• Board certification by AANP or ANCC.
• AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
• Adherence to the legal framework and scope of practice defined by the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs, ensuring compliance with all applicable statutes and professional standards.

For Physician Assistants:

• Physician Assistant License.
• National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification.
• AHA Basic Health Care Life Support (BLS) HCP Certification.
• AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification.

The posted rate of pay is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act.
