About the role
The P&C Commissioning Specialist is responsible for performing commissioning activities as assigned by the project lead. This includes assisting with daily commissioning activities, attending safety and planning meetings, communicating potential delays or cost overruns, and identifying safety and human performance risks.
Responsibilities
- Aid in the execution of numerous P&C commissioning projects.
- Become familiar with all applicable policies and procedures.
- Participate in project safety and planning meetings.
- Report potential delays or cost overruns to the Project Lead promptly.
- Explore and pursue new business or customer opportunities.
- Travel overnight as needed to fulfill job responsibilities.
- Identify and mitigate safety hazards and human performance risks.
Requirements
- Show evidence of assisting with the successful execution of numerous P&C commissioning projects.
- Have a basic understanding of electrical theory and protective relaying principles.
- Be able to read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Use a variety of relay test sets and automated relay testing software.
- Understand network communications including TCP/IP, DNP, Modbus, and various media structures.
- Familiarity with construction and apparatus testing standards and procedures, with NETA III or IV certification preferred.
- Be aware of NERC Standards and CIP policies and procedures, and demonstrate compliance with required documentation.
- Have strong working knowledge with common software such as Microsoft Office, and experience with project management and electrical industry software applications.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and demonstrate organizational skills.
- Maintain a professional appearance and keep tools, test equipment, and vehicles clean and up to date with service and calibrations.

Work Environment
- Work in close proximity to live electrical substations.
- Occasional overtime including nights, weekends, and some holidays.
- Travel on overnight, multi-day, out-of-town projects.
- Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner.
- Take calls, give technical advice, and schedule workforce outside of the normal workday.
- Lift and maneuver at least 50 lbs.
- Stand, climb, walk, lift, carry, and grasp are all required.
Education and Work Experience
- Hold an Associates technical degree or equivalent military training such as Army Prime Power or Naval Nuclear Power fields with at least 2 years of P&C, project management, substation commissioning, or related experience.
- Be able to achieve NETA level III or IV within 12 months of employment.
Other Requirements
- Pass a pre-employment criminal background check, education verification, motor vehicle report, an approved hair and urine drug screen, and periodic, unannounced random testing.
- Hold a valid driver’s license.
- Be able to lift and maneuver at least 50 lbs.
- Be willing to obtain a company-paid TWIC, OSHA 10-hour, NFPA 70-E, and CPR training.
