About the role
This P-3 Flight Engineer Instructor position supports the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in the area of Support Services. The mission-critical program provides comprehensive training, safety, standards, curriculum development, and technical modernization services to ensure national border security agents can operate safely and effectively.
Responsibilities
- Academic & Practical Instruction: Teach aircraft systems (Fuel, Hydraulics, Propulsion, Electrical, CRM) in classroom and flight simulator environments.
- Evaluate Crew Competency: Objectively assess student proficiency in flight operations, weight and balance calculations, and emergency checklists.
- Create Flight Scenarios: Program and direct realistic flight training scenarios in the P-3 Operational Flight Simulator (OFT).
- Course Maintenance: Assist in developing and updating study guides, grading criteria, flight scenario logs, and academic exams.
- Record Uploads: Create and maintain system quizzes and exams, grading and uploading completed quizzes and exams to the secure tracking and reporting portal.
Requirements
- Experience: 3-5 years of recent experience as a P-3 Flight Engineer Instructor (must have taught within the last 2 years).
- Certification: FAA Flight Engineer Certificate or military equivalent qualification preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep, comprehensive knowledge of the P-3 Orion’s engines, avionics, systems, and emergency operations.
- Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a federal background suitability check.
