Overnight Waste Collection CDL Driver - Jersey City (Driving in Manhattan)

About the role

Responsibilities

• Safely operate a rear-loading truck for the pick-up service of bags or containers filled with waste or recyclable material.
• Transport the material to a disposal, transfer, or recycle facility, making one or more trips throughout the shift.
• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle using a standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report).
• Ensure the container and its contents are always secure, including checking tarps and ties, and climbing onto containers if necessary.
• Make pre- and post-route inspections of assigned truck and document any safety issues on standard reports.
• Continuously monitor for safety and service-related issues, as well as containers of other equipment in need of repair, and report any issues to the Route Supervisor or Dispatch.
• Communicate professionally with customers and Dispatchers at all times, responding to complaints about schedules and quality of service.
• Attend all required training, operational meetings, and mandatory monthly Safety Meetings.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications

• At least 21 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
• Valid Class A or B CDL and a clean driving record.
• At least 1 year of experience operating a vehicle requiring a CDL A or B, within the last 7 years.
• Experience as a Driver or Helper for a refuse company is highly preferred.
• Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and applicable traffic regulations.
• Ability to speak and read English well enough to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic and signals, respond to official questions, and make legible entries on reports and records.
• Ability to read and understand a map.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, mount and dismount the truck multiple times, and work outdoors in all kinds of weather.
• Willingness and ability to work required worked hours as allowed under DOT regulation, which may include weekend, night, and/or holiday work.

• Must be able to physically mount and dismount the truck throughout the duration of the workday.
