Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises health center-based Registered Nurses, Nurse Coordinators, Medical Assistant Supervisors, and Medical Assistants, including hiring, orientation, performance appraisals, counseling, staff disciplinary issues, and staff scheduling.
  • Ensures competencies of all clinical nursing staff members in partnership with the RN Education Coordinator, ensuring clinical nursing quality of care and adherence to scope of practice per Colorado state regulations.
  • Holds 1:1 supervision with direct reports, including permanent, temporary, agency, or volunteer staff, providing feedback, coaching, mentorship, training, support, competency evaluations, and performance management.
  • Maintains a high standard of care on the team by offering or assigning relevant trainings, setting clear expectations of best practices, policies, and procedures, and evaluating staff with quality assurance metrics.
  • Consistently adheres to, maintains, improves, and updates the standard work for the Nurse Manager position.
  • Monitors RN FTE and schedules team according to established ratios, ensuring communication and scheduling of nursing staff for daily clinical needs.
  • Represents SSHC in nursing services and supportive health service operations, staff engagement, patient care, and workflow at health center leadership meetings.
  • Participates in and leads quality improvement projects for SSHC and the nursing department, ensuring collaboration of care and consistency across integrated health suite teams.
  • Communicates, organizes, and co-leads discipline meetings in conjunction with other RN Leadership, facilitating or participating in other leadership or inter-discipline team meetings as needed.
  • Champions and leads quality improvement initiatives, sharing knowledge and coaching on quality improvement and LEAN methodology.
  • Creates and coaches a culture of collaboration, mutual respect, and trust within health suite teams.
  • Ensures regular communication among integrated care teams by facilitating or delegating suite team huddles and writing care plans for individual patients.
  • Shares pertinent information across disciplines and within healthcare suites and other CCH resources.
  • Acts as a leader to problem-solve with other CCH Leadership for continuous improvement of patient care and staff needs.
  • Brings personnel issues to the attention of appropriate supervisors for resolution.
  • Provides skilled nursing care according to accepted community standards to preserve and enhance patients' highest level of functioning.
  • Available for workday or evening clinic as scheduled.
  • Maintains EHR core competencies, including being a designated NextGen super user and trainer for nursing services staff, recording patient data, managing EHR tasks, immunizations, and billing of services.
  • Meets required COVID-19 vaccination(s) as defined by applicable law, regulation, or guidance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse, currently licensed in the State of Colorado.
  • Preferred Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN).
  • Two (2) years of experience as a supervisor in a community health center, hospital, long-term care facility, or related healthcare setting preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience as an RN, with ambulatory, public or community health, home health nursing, or urgent care experience preferred.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)-CPR.

Skills

  • Sound critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and assertive communication skills with a high degree of emotional intelligence.
  • Knowledge of homeless issues and demonstrated sensitivity to working with underserved populations.
  • Ability to perform treatments and laboratory procedures independently or as requested by healthcare providers.
  • Adherence to Universal Precautions per CDC guidelines and OSHA regulations.
  • Adherence to HIPAA regulations per standards developed by the Department of Health and Human Services.
  • Ability to provide appropriate patient education tailored to individual learning styles, education levels, and health beliefs.
  • Strong communication and crisis intervention skills.
  • Initiative to learn and practice triage protocols.
  • Ability to triage patients in person or via telephone according to current SSHC protocols.
  • Ability to assess and provide urgent/emergent care and wound care for patients.
  • Ability to monitor and facilitate patient flow and conduct telephone callbacks for follow-up care.
