General Merchandise

Experts of operations, process and efficiency who enable a consistent experience for guests by ensuring product is set, in‑stock, accurately priced and signed on the sales floor. The General Merchandise and Food Sales team leads inbound, outbound, replenishment, inventory accuracy, presentation, pricing and promotional signing processes for all General Merchandise (GM) areas of the store, including Food & Beverage and Food Service.

Role Overview

The Inbound Expert role provides knowledge of guest‑service fundamentals and experience supporting a guest‑first culture, retail business fundamentals such as department sales trends, inventory management, and process efficiency, and the ability to execute daily/weekly workloads to support business priorities and sales goals.

Responsibilities

• Execute a detailed, accurate and efficient sorting operation.
• Stock, organize and store reserve product and straighten merchandise on the sales floor.
• Maintain product availability on the sales floor for GM categories.
• Operate powered equipment as necessary while unloading freight or moving merchandise.
• Process defective merchandise and handle environmentally sensitive (ESIM) items in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety and compliance.
• Work safely at all times; comply with safety policies, best practices, and training; report and correct hazards.
• Support guest services such as back‑up cashier, order pick‑up (OPU) and Drive‑Up (DU) while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local adult‑beverage laws.
• Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests while completing daily tasks.
• Engage with guests in a welcoming way to help solve their specific needs.
• Thank guests and let them know we’re happy they chose to shop at Target.
• Perform all other duties based on business needs.

Qualifications

• Enjoy interacting with and helping guests and team members.
• Thrive in a fast‑moving, physically demanding role where teamwork, flexibility, and creative problem‑solving are essential.
• Open to a flexible work schedule with varying hours, days or shifts (including nights, weekends, holidays and peak shopping times).
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Skills

• Ability to communicate on multiple‑frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology as directed.
• Work both independently and collaboratively with a team.
• Resolve guest questions quickly on the spot.

• Accurately handle cash register operations as needed.
• Climb ladders, scan, handle and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including lifting or moving items up to 44 lb.
• Reliable and prompt attendance.
• Capability to work in varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements (e.g., Drive‑Up, carry‑out areas).
• Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift.

Pay

Starting hourly rate: $19.50 USD per hour.

Schedule

Flexible schedule with varying hours, days or shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and other peak shopping times. Shift length may vary.
