About the role

As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you will support individuals with disabilities to lead meaningful lives within their communities. You will provide direct care and assistance in various settings, fostering independence, promoting well-being, and enhancing quality of life.

Responsibilities

• Provide personalized support and assistance with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication management, and household tasks.
• Foster positive relationships with individuals, families, and guardians, promoting effective communication and collaboration to meet the individual's needs and goals.
• Implement person-centered plans and goals, ensuring the individual's preferences, choices, and rights are respected and upheld.
• Facilitate community integration and participation in recreational, social, and vocational activities, promoting independence and inclusion.
• Monitor and document individual progress, behaviors, and any significant changes, maintaining accurate records and reports as required.
• Respond effectively to emergencies, following established protocols and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including healthcare professionals, therapists, and case managers to coordinate comprehensive care and support services.
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge in the field of developmental disabilities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred, but not required; comprehensive training and support provided for new team members.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trusting relationships with individuals, families, and team members.
• Compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting individuals with diverse needs and abilities.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, demonstrating flexibility, adaptability, and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required for community-based activities and transportation of individuals as needed. (If working in a licensed Winter Family Care setting, company vehicles are provided.)
