Outsourced Accounting Senior Associate
Responsibilities
- Oversee the month-end and year-end closing process, including preparation of audit schedules, financial statements, and notes to the financial statements.
- Keep engagement partner informed and updated on engagement progress, engagement issues, and team status and needs.
- Demonstrate knowledge of complex accounting issues and treatment; proficient in accounting research.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, including statement of financial position, statement of activities, statement of functional expenses, and analysis on changes in financial position and budget variances.
- Review reconciliations for significant balance sheet accounts and various other general ledger accounts as needed; review month-end closing entries including payroll, fringe, indirect allocations, investment allocations, and grant allocations.
- Maintain deep understanding of the accounting operations within each assigned client.
- Demonstrate proficient knowledge of clients' accounting software packages.
- Recommend and enforce internal controls, policies, and procedures established by the client.
- Lead the engagement team in preparation for clients' audits as the main contact with external auditors.
- Manage the preparation of clients' 990 and tax forms and year-end preparation of their 1099s.
- Recommend, design, and implement necessary policy controls and procedures.
- Perform other duties including budget preparation, review, modification, grant reporting to private/federal funders, drafting of policies and procedures, review and payment of client payables in third-party software, client billing, and drafting of engagement letters.
- Train, coach, and mentor staff accountants.
- Review and supervise Senior and Staff Accountants' monthly work, including journal entry and monthly reconciliation review, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in month-end completion.
- Assist in the growth, development, and training of staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- 3 years of relevant work experience.
- Achieve and maintain professional certifications relative to area of expertise, including required licenses.
- Possess strong analytical skills.
- Proficient use of applicable technology.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of the organization, both internally and externally.
- Able to travel based on client and business needs.
