Outside Counsel Guideline Specialist
About the role
Kent Daniels & Associates is seeking an Outside Counsel Guideline Specialist to join our dynamic law firm client!
Responsibilities
- Review, analyze, and negotiate incoming OCGs from corporate clients, identifying provisions that conflict with firm policy, ethics rules, or financial requirements
- Draft and redline OCG responses, counterproposals, and engagement letters in coordination with practice group chairs and firm leadership
- Maintain/update the firm's standard OCG positions, fallback language, and internal escalation protocols
- Advise attorneys and client relationship managers on the practical implications of specific OCG provisions, including billing restrictions, staffing requirements, and confidentiality obligations
- Collaborate with billing and finance teams to ensure billing guideline compliance, including rate schedules, invoice submission requirements, and write-off policies
- Track market trends in OCG provisions and benchmark firm positions against peer firms and industry standards
- Build and manage a centralized OCG database, ensuring that executed guidelines and client-specific exceptions are properly documented and accessible
- Collaborate with professional responsibility and ethics counsel on privilege, conflicts, and confidentiality-related OCG provisions
- Train and advise attorneys and staff on firm OCG policies and flag compliance issues as they arise during matters
Requirements
- Deep familiarity with OCG structures, billing guideline conventions, and common client demands
- Strong contract drafting and redlining skills with excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable engaging with senior attorneys and client representatives
- Experience with legal billing software (Aderant, Elite, CounselLink, Onit)
- Experience with legal project management and experience in an AmLaw 100/200 or large regional firm environment is preferred
- Experience with eBilling platforms and LEDES billing format, with working knowledge of ABA Model Rules and applicable state ethics rules is a plus
- Familiarity with diversity, equity & inclusion billing reporting requirements is increasingly common in OCGs desirable
Qualifications
- J.D. or equivalent legal training required

- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Legal billing software proficiency (Aderant, Elite, CounselLink, Onit)
- Legal project management experience
- Working knowledge of ABA Model Rules and applicable state ethics rules

Pay
$140,000 - $150,000 annually (Exempt)

Monday – Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm
