CSPNJ, a mental health nonprofit agency, is seeking evening Outreach Worker(s) for Atlantic City to engage with unsheltered homeless individuals through direct street outreach, build relationships, and connect them to services and housing.

About the role

The Outreach Worker, under the direction of the Director of Unhoused, will spend 90% of their time in the community identifying and engaging unhoused individuals. The focus is on connecting clients with resources and services to stabilize their homelessness, mental health, and primary health situations.

  • Conduct regular proactive outreach in designated areas throughout the County, including streets, encampments, transit hubs, and other community locations.
  • Identify and discuss barriers preventing individuals from accessing community programs and services, such as transportation, documentation, behavioral health needs, disability, language, or technology access.
  • Facilitate referrals to the Coordinated Entry System (CES) to assess individuals for housing resources, including housing vouchers and other opportunities.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to Housing First philosophy, harm reduction principles, and low-barrier, client-centered services.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid NJ Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Experience providing peer support.
  • Knowledge of HMIS software is a plus.
  • Ability to build trusting, respectful relationships with individuals experiencing homelessness and high vulnerability, including those with mental health disabilities, substance use disorders, and prior justice system involvement.
  • Knowledge of transitional and permanent supportive housing.
  • Willingness to share lived experience, including current or past use of mental health or addiction services, experiences with homelessness, and elements of one’s personal recovery journey.
  • Proficient in MS Office products and general computer literacy.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and relate to a diverse population in a multicultural environment.
  • Proven ability to engage and support individuals with mental health diagnoses using empathy, professionalism, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.

Schedule

  • Sunday - Thursday, 4:00 PM - 12:30 AM
  • Tuesday - Saturday, 4:00 PM - 12:30 AM
