OUTREACH TEACHER
About the role
The Louisiana Special School District is seeking applicants for an Outreach Teacher position. This is an Unclassified-Regular Position - Full time 12-month position. The position is located in the Shared Services / Statewide Support.
Responsibilities
- Implements Special School District and Louisiana School for the Deaf instructional philosophy, program, and curricula when providing outreach services to children and their families.
- Holds a current Louisiana teaching certificate or holds a valid out-of-state teaching certificate.
- Travels throughout Louisiana to provide outreach services to children and their families.
- Administers prescribed pre and post tests to evaluate student progress.
- Provides input for decisions regarding placement of children in appropriate educational programs.
- Uses designated curricula and materials in the teaching/learning process in a variety of approaches and techniques which develop lesson objectives and meet child and family needs.
- Develops weekly lesson plans for child ages 0 – 3 for supervisory review.
- Maintains accurate records of contacts, instructional strategies implemented, current calendar of appointments, expense account forms, inventory records and student records; exercises confidentiality of information in accordance with requirements of the law.
- Maintains a positive relationship with professional associates, the community, the parents of the students and state and local agencies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate
- Valid Out-of-State Teaching Certificate
- Alternative Certification Candidate with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and documented enrollment in an approved alternative teacher prep program
Skills
- Knowledge of special education rules and regulations associated with implementation of state and federal laws
- Understanding of handicapped children and their needs, especially the deaf and hearing impaired children served by the school
- Appropriate and effective office management skills
- Good judgment in making decisions
- Positive relationship with professional associates, the community, the parents of the students and state and local agencies
- Effective expressive and receptive sign language skills
